Meet the Miya Health Team

Dr. Ramesh Rajentheran

Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder

Ramesh is CEO and a co-founder. He has spent over 2 decades in healthcare as a doctor, a healthcare investment banker, a senior healthcare executive and now as a healthtech co-founder. He was the former CFO and COO at Fullerton Health in Singapore where he helped run Asia’s largest managed care business. He was also the Managing Director and Head of Asian Healthcare Investment Banking at Barclays in Hong Kong/Singapore, an Executive Director at Morgan Stanley & UBS in London, and has executed numerous healthcare deals around the world. During his time as a physician in the NHS in the UK, he published research on oncology in several European publications. He also served as Head of Markets and advisor to the Chairman of Hong Leong Group in Malaysia.

When he isn’t trying to see around corners on behalf of MiyaHealth- he enjoys 20-minute workouts and  fantasizing about being an architect by designing his own Lego architecture models. Ramesh has a MBA from London Business School and qualified as a doctor in Newcastle where he was a Commonwealth/Chevening Scholar. He is also on the boards of several private and public companies and is Chairman of Engineering Good, a humanitarian engineering non-profit.

Bevan Cheong

Chief Product Officer & Co-Founder

Bevan oversees our product and is a co-founder. An actuary and health technologist who had founding roles in Accident & Health businesses, Bevan was the former CTO at Tokio Marine Life Insurance Singapore where he launched fund execution and information platforms and overhauled customer portals for a more intuitive experience. He was also Vice President of Manulife Singapore, where he helped found the Accident and Health business . He also Co-Chaired the Digital Subcommittee of the Life Insurance Association of Singapore.

Bevan is passionate about learning and education and is currently an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (USA). Previously, he was a Healthcare Technology Researcher at Kinetic Consulting London. He also taught the actuarial science programme as an Adjunct Professor at The Cass Business School of City University, London.

When he isn’t creating our next big product– Bevan “runs for fun”. Bevan has a MSc in Health Informatics from City University and a Bbus in Actuarial Science at Nanyang Technological University.

Shirley Ah Hee

Chief Operating Officer & Co-Founder

Shirley oversees our Operations, Finance, Legal and HR and is a co-founder. Shirley has 20 years of experience in leading innovative initiatives spanning front to back processes, data management, technology transformation, mergers & acquisitions, risk and treasury. She has held multiple advisory and management roles in international companies within the United Kingdom, Mauritius and Singapore, giving her a global perspective.

Shirley has led finance transformations at Yifan Pharmaceutical, the Stamford International School and Fullerton Health. She also had various operational and advisory roles at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Singapore, Standard Bank Group in Mauritius, and Deloitte in London.

When she isn’t making our company tick, Shirley likes being outdoors, cycling the Park Connectors and making poor attempts at learning both the piano and Chinese, not necessarily at the same time. Shirley holds an MSc and Bsc in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is a Fellow Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. She has an ACI Dealing Certificate from the ACI Financial Markets Association and a Certificate in Treasury from the Association of Corporate Treasurers.

Elwin Lim

Chief Technology Officer

Elwin is our Chief Technology Officer, and has been an entrepreneur, consultant and technology evangelist for Healthcare and Financial Services for over 20 years. Prior to MiyaHealth he was CEO at Microlink, where he focused on Financial Services for banking, including conventional/islamic banking solutions and digital banking. He is also an expert on systems for insurance, both in terms of general and surrounding systems. He also transformed financial services products/services via deployment to cutting edge mobility, cloud, analytics and IOT platforms.

At various points in his Enterprise Solutions career at Fusionex International, he was responsible for covering the Financial Services, Government, Telco, Retail and Travel/Hospitality sectors deploying technology including Big Data and Analytics solutions. He began his career at KPMG consulting where he looked at business intelligence, application development and IT strategy.

When he isn’t spending time with our clients, Elwin balances relaxing sessions on the golf course with the intensity of racing cars around a track. Elwin has a Bachelor of Computing, Management Information Systems and Services from Monash University.

Dr. Sharizan Shaharuddin

Chief Health Officer

Sharizan is our Chief Health Officer.  She has been at various points a hospital administrator, physician, app developer and lawyer. Prior to Miya Health, Dr Sharizan was a lawyer at Raja, Darryl & Loh, where she specialised in medical negligence litigation.

She helped set up a brand new hospital at Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare, and was Chief Medical Officer at Travel Guard Asia Pacific, which is a part of AIG. As a physician she served at Pantai Hospital Ampang & Pantai Hospital in Malaysia and at the North Shore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.

When she isn’t using technology to improve patient outcomes, Sharizan likes to sew, draw and paint (amongst other things!). Sharizan holds a Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) from Advanced Tertiary College (ATC) in Malaysia, a Bachelor of Laws – LLB (Hons) from the University of London, and an MBA from the Technology University of Malaysia (UTM). She graduated with a Bachelor of Human Biology, a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery – MBChB from the University of Auckland. She also serves as an Advocate and Solicitor at the Court of Malaya.

Dr Wee Ming Koh

Head of Analytics

Wee Ming is our Head of Analytics. Formerly a Regional Lead for Claims Analytics at Chubb Asia Pacific, where he successfully improved loss ratios. He also served as an Assistant Director, Data Analytics with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Wee Ming was previously a Researcher in Biostatistics and Healthcare at the National University of Singapore’s Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. He published papers on infectious disease epidemiology and currently is a lecturer of Statistics at the Singapore University of Social Sciences.

When not creating models that help improve health outcomes, Wee Ming likes spending time on his road bike, exploring the night sky through his telescope and feeding his family with the best beef he can get his hands on.  Wee Ming graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Public Health and Biostatistics as a President Research Scholar of the National University of Singapore (NUS). He also has a MSc in Statistics from NUS and a Bachelor of Business in Actuarial Science and Banking & Finance with First Class Honours from Nanyang Technological University.

Dr. Nor Izam Shaik Ahmad

Chief Medical Officer

Nor Izam is Chief Medical Officer, responsible for our medical protocols and medical network. Izam is a qualified Family Physician. A multi-talented physician, she has had various senior roles in managed care as well as health services in a career that spans 3 decades.

Some of her achievements included successful commissioning of Ara Damansara Medical Centre (ADMC) in 2012 as the Person –in- charge and the relocation of an entire contact centre as Medical Director and Head of Operations at CompuMed in Malaysia. Izam was also the Medical Advisor and Coordinating Doctor at International SOS where she was clinically involved with the domestic evacuation and international repatriation of patients.

When not figuring out how to improve medical quality and how to best help the doctors in our medical network, Izam does mobile photography and trying to figure out who the killer is before Hercule Poirot does in Agatha Christie novels as well as enjoying the dry British humour of John Mortimer’s Rumpole of the Bailey. She is a member of the Malaysian Academy of Family Physicians, is a Fellow of the Australian College of General Practioners, and has a MBBS from the University of Malaya.

Brian Tan

Head of Technology

Brian is our Head of Technology. A software developer for nearly two decades , Brian has led teams that have built everything from simulations & games to serious business solutions such as e-commerce, loyalty systems and insurance. He is an expert on designing optimized solutions for the cloud. He believes in building technology around the needs of patients,  and takes a humanistic approach to software development. Brian joined us from Movere where he was the Senior Software Manager and prior to that was the Senior Solution Architect at Fusionex. He also spent time at Advantage systems and was a Program Director at the Institute of Digital Game Technology.

When he isn’t figuring out how best to build technology that improves healthcare Brian is an “Otaku” at heart, and enjoys animes and quirky tv shows (think Big Bang theory!) as well as hiking. Brian has a Master of Engineering in Computer Engineering and AI from Nanyang Technological University

Jess Fong

Head of Operations, MiyaCare

Jess looks after our operations at Miyacare, part of our MiyaPayor platform. She is a health claims expert, having led claims transformation projects for close to two decades. Her experience spans both MNC insurers as well as managed care companies. Within claims transformation she focuses on systems enhancements, process improvements and has also executed on robotic process automation (RPA) projects regionally. Prior to Miya Health she led a group at AIA shared Services in Malaysia and Asia Assist.

When she isn’t improving our operational capabilities, Jess likes watching dramas and variety shows, hanging out with family and friends and working out. Jess has a BSc in Biotechnology from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman in Malaysia.

Dr. Andi Rahardianto

Senior Scientist, PT Miyacare Medika Indonesia​

Andi leads the Miya team in Indonesia. Previously, he was a co-founder and CTO of a California tech start-up Noria Water Technologies focusing on real-time system monitoring and data analytics. He was also Research Scientist and Assistant Adjunct Professor at the UCLA Chemical Engineering Department. He has authored/co-authored over thirty-five scientific journal articles and book chapters, and is an inventor in multiple issued patents. ​

When he isn’t helping drive our Indonesian business, Andi loves the outdoors and discovering great places to eat in the city. He enjoys traveling, hiking, biking, and snorkeling. Andi earned his B.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from UW-Madison and UCLA, respectively.

Dr. Afifah Handayani

Senior Medical Officer, PT Miyacare Medika Indonesia​

Afifah looks after our medical and payor affairs in Indonesia. Afifah is a Medical doctor with MPH degree specializing in health leadership & management. She also received additional training in public health informatics and had hands-on experience in HIS Implementation programs. She was also a former key member of the Strategic Initiatives Division in one of the biggest hospital networks in Indonesia. Afifah was also a research program Assistant at Johns Hopkins and a primary care physician at a primary care centre in Jakarta​

When she isn’t thinking about new ways to better look after our Indonesian clients and patients, Afifah likes to spend time with people important in her life doing everything from nature adventures to dinner table conversations. Afifah has a Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins, an MD and B Med Sci from the University of Indonesia.
